Seminars

Energywiz offers three courses not available elsewhere. All three are provided through a secure Internet connection and a toll-free telephone number. Slides appear on your screen, while Lindsay Audin converses with you through your speakerphone. A full set of the slides may be downloaded in advance, or during the class, and an audio recording of the event is available for review for two weeks after the event. Registration and connection details are handled through the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).

Buying Power in Competitive Retail Markets will show you how to buy power on your own terms, instead of just how your utility wants to sell it to you. In this 6-hour seminar (2 hours each on three consecutive days), Lindsay Audin walks you through:

  • how the electricity supply industry has changed, and is changing

  • preparing your facility to buy power, both the first time and after

  • what you can do to affect the price you pay

  • analyzing power contracts and avoiding their pitfalls

  • finding and qualifying acceptable bidders

  • assembling a power RFI/RFP

     This course is given quarterly.
3D Load Profiling, Smart Metering, and Demand Response addresses how to understand, control, and profit from load control. In this 6-hour seminar (2 hours each on 3 consecutive days), Lindsay Audin covers hands-on techniques for:

  • understanding and portraying basic load shapes

  • securing and configuring smart (i.e., interval) meter data

  • analyzing customer energy loads using such data

  • designing, specifying, funding, and installing interval metering

  • charting loads in three dimensions to better understand and control them

  • converting data from utilities and meters into Excel-compatible arrays

  • creating and employing Load Duration Curves to set peak demand limits

  • participating in demand response programs

  • finding and qualifying demand response providers

  • evaluating demand response provider contracts

Excel macros and charting templates are provided to all attendees.

Analyzing Distributed Generation Contracts and Proposals dissects Power Purchasing Agreements (PPA) for on-site sources of power generation such as distributed generation (DG), combined heat and power (CHP) plants, and renewable sources of power, such as photovoltaic (PV) panels. In this 4-hour seminar (2 hours each on 2 consecutive days), Lindsay Audin zeroes in on:
  • the emerging "DG for Free" industry

  • how much it could cut your electric and fuel bills

  • technical issues with installing on-site power generation

  • contractual issues with buying power from an on-site generator

  • verifying how much you’re saving (or spending)

  • who offers these deals, and how they're being accepted

  • interactions with existing power contracts and leases

  • ways to sweeten DG proposals

  • timelines for installation and startup
